Shipments in Warehouse Transfers

Keep track of the delivery of goods between your warehouses: create or link a shipment right in the transfer, follow the delivery and update statuses automatically.

If a company has several warehouses, branches or departments, goods are not always delivered between them by its own transport. Postal and logistics carriers are often used for this.

Now in Orderry such delivery can be tracked right in the transfer: a shipment with its number, carrier and current status is linked to it. If the carrier supports tracking, the transfer status is updated automatically.

This way the warehouse transfer and its actual delivery stay part of one process.

Creating and linking a shipment

In the transfer actions you can create a new shipment through a connected carrier or link an existing one.

The Create shipment action starts with selecting a carrier – then its usual form opens, where part of the sender and recipient data is filled in automatically from the warehouse settings.

If the shipment has already been created in the carrier's account, use the Link shipment action: select the carrier and enter the tracking number.

The number can be saved even when the carrier you need is not among the connected integrations – the list includes the Other carrier option for that. Orderry will store such a number in the transfer, but automatic tracking will not be available for it.

For a linked shipment you can view its details or unlink it from the transfer. The available actions depend on what the particular integration supports.

Employees with the right to edit transfers can create, link and unlink shipments.

Please note: unlinking only removes the connection between the shipment and the transfer in Orderry. The shipment itself is not cancelled in the carrier's account.

Warehouse contact details

In the warehouse settings you can specify a Shipment contact – the contact person and address used for shipments.

When a shipment is created for a transfer, the source warehouse is used for the sender data and the destination warehouse for the recipient data.

Orderry fills in the first name, last name, phone, country and address automatically, so you do not have to enter this data every time. If needed, you can change it right before creating the shipment.

Setting up the contact is optional – without it the required data can be entered manually.

Automatic delivery tracking

If a connected carrier supports tracking, its statuses can be mapped to transfer statuses.

For example, when the carrier reports that the shipment has been accepted, is moving between depots or has arrived at its destination, Orderry moves the transfer to the matching status automatically.

Please note: only statuses in the Delivery group change automatically. Receiving the goods at the warehouse and completing the transfer stay with your employees.

This way the physical delivery can update the transfer process automatically, without interfering with inventory accounting.

Shipments in the transfer list

A shipment column has appeared in the transfer list: the carrier logo, the number and the current delivery status. The number can be copied, and clicking it opens the shipment details if the integration supports this.

For numbers saved through the Other carrier option, only the number itself is shown in the column.

Shipments are also included in the export – the carrier and the tracking number are exported as separate columns.

Shipment actions follow the same pattern as in work orders. For details, see the step-by-step guide to creating and linking a shipment in a transfer.
