You can now create products with variants in the catalog – for example, a phone case in several colors or a smartphone with different storage options. You set the shared details once for all variants, while each variant has its own prices, SKU, and stock.
Previously, such items had to be created and maintained separately. A case for three phone models in four colors meant 12 products, each filled in manually and then edited one by one whenever the category or name changed. Now you just create one product, select the Phone model and Color attributes, and the system generates all 12 variants.
Attributes and their values
Variants are based on attributes (for example, Color or Storage) and their values (Black, White, 128 GB, 256 GB). Attributes and values are set up in Settings > Directories > Product attributes. Here, you can create them, rename them, and add new values. To learn how to do this, read the guide to setting up the product attributes directory.
If you rename a value, the names of all variants that use it are updated automatically. The stock and history of these variants stay intact.
Creating a product with variants
In the catalog, click + Product and select Product with variants. Then:
Enter the shared details: name, product type, category, and unit of measurement.
Add attributes and select the values you need.
Review the combinations the system has generated. They're all selected by default – deselect the ones you don't need.
If needed, choose how to fill in the SKU, internal code, and MPN for new variants: enter one value for all of them, fill them in for each variant individually, or generate unique values.
After you save, the system creates the product and all selected variants. Each variant's name is made up of the product name and the attribute values, for example, Classic case – iPhone 15 Black. For details on each step, read the guide to creating a product with variants.
Shared and individual details
In the card of a product with variants, you manage its shared details: name, product type, category, and unit of measurement, as well as serial number and expiration tracking. In the cards of individual variants, these details are view-only. Once saved, changes apply to all variants. If a change conflicts with the tracking rules of at least one variant, the system won't let you save it.
At the same time, each variant has its own prices, SKU, barcode, images, description, warranty, stock, and transaction history.
Variants in the catalog and documents
In the catalog, a product with variants is shown as a single row with the number of variants. Expand it to see them all.
In orders, sales, postings, transfers, and other documents, you select a specific variant just like a regular product. Stock, cost, batches, and serial numbers also belong to specific variants, while the product with variants itself has no stock of its own.
Products created earlier remain regular products without variants – nothing changes for them.
When your product range grows
You don't have to create all variants at once. When your product range grows, for example with a new color, add the new value to the product with variants and create only the variants you need – existing ones stay unchanged.
