Multiple Asset Types with Custom Forms

Organize different kinds of assets more efficiently with separate asset types and custom forms tailored to your workflow.

Written by Hanna

We’ve expanded asset management in Orderry. Previously, all asset fields had to be combined into a single universal form. Now you can create dedicated asset types with only the fields relevant to that category, making asset profiles cleaner, more structured, and easier for employees to work with.

This update is especially useful for businesses that work with different categories of assets — such as vehicles, devices, or equipment — and need to store different information for each type.

How It Works

In Settings > Forms editor > Assets, you can now create multiple asset types.

For each asset type, you can:

  • specify its name;

  • configure a unique set of fields;

  • choose which fields should be visible or required.

For example, an auto repair shop can create separate asset types for:

  • passenger cars — with mileage, license plate number, transmission type;

  • electric vehicles — with battery capacity and charging port type;

  • engines or aggregates — with operating hours, and model.

Or an electronics repair business can create different asset types for:

  • smartphones — with storage capacity, battery health;

  • laptops — with RAM, processor model, and screen size;

  • gaming consoles — with console generation and controller details.

When creating or editing an asset, employees simply select the appropriate asset type and see only the fields related to it.

To choose the default asset type, go to Settings > Inventory.

How Different Asset Types Help You

Using separate asset types helps you:

  • avoid overloaded asset forms with irrelevant fields;

  • standardize data for different asset categories;

  • speed up asset creation and editing;

  • reduce mistakes during data entry;

  • make asset information easier to read and manage.

This makes Orderry more flexible for companies that work with a wide variety of assets and need more customized workflows.

What’s Next?

This update is the next step toward more flexible inventory and asset management in Orderry. In future updates, we plan to expand the same approach to products, so you’ll be able to create different forms for inventory items and improve workflows related to converting assets into products and vice versa.
